Accessibility Tips
Equity In The Center® is continuously working on making updates to all of our platforms so they remain accessible to all folks who are interested in the work. While we work on these updates, we ask that you bear with us.
On our website, you can click the blue icon on the far left bottom corner of the screen to optimize our website for ADA accessibility. Additional suggestions below may be helpful in accessing the information on our platforms.
Is the Font too Small?
On Internet Browser:
- In the top right-hand corner of your browser, there is often a button for “More Options” or “Settings”
- Next to “Zoom,” choose the zoom options you want:
- Make everything larger: Click “Zoom In” [+].
- Make everything smaller: Click “Zoom Out” [-].
On Windows:
- To change the font size:
- Press the Windows button, search and open settings. Search for “Accessibility”. Select “Text size” and drag the slider. This will change the text size for all applications on your windows computer.
- To zoom in or zoom out on parts of your screen in Windows, use Magnifier.
- To turn on Magnifier, press the Windows logo key + Plus [+]. Zoom in by continuing to press the Windows logo key + Plus [+]. Zoom out by pressing the Windows logo key + Minus [-].
On Mac:
- To change the screen resolution (this changes the font size):
- Open “System Preferences”, click “Displays” then “Scaled,” and then choose which resolution you prefer.
- Use the Zoom pane of Accessibility preferences to make the entire screen larger or to enlarge the area where your pointer is located. To change these preferences, open System Preferences, click “Accessibility,” then “Zoom.” Use the listed shortcuts to zoom in or out.
Are the Colors Making it Difficult to Read or Select an Option?
On Internet Browser:
- Chrome: Google recommends the High Contrast extension to make reading text and seeing image details easier.
- Firefox: Firefox automatically detects if you are using a high-contrast theme and displays everything in that color scheme. This overrides all other browser or web page settings, and it affects the Firefox interface itself (all menus, windows, and dialog boxes) and all webpage content.
- To activate a theme:
- From the Tools menu, click “Options” (or “Preferences”)
- From the options on the left, click “Extensions & Themes”.
- Click “Themes”.
- Click “Enable” on the dark theme.
- Close the about:addons page. Any changes you’ve made will automatically be saved.
- Edge:
- From the Tools menu, click “Settings”.
- Click “Appearance”.
- Next to “Theme”, use the drop-down menu to click “Dark.”
On Windows:
- Press the Windows button, search for and open “Settings.” Search for “Accessibility.” Select “Contrast Themes” or “Color Filters” to turn on high contrast mode. Select the toggle button under “Turn on High Contrast.” Windows may display a “Please wait” screen before the colors change.
On Mac:
- Open “System Preferences” and click on the “Accessibility” button. Click “Display” and then click the box next to “Increase Contrast.”
Do You Need Captions?
On Windows:
- Press the Windows button, search and open settings. Search for “Accessibility”. Select “Captions”. Set the Caption Style.
On Mac:
- Open “System Preferences” and click “Accessibility.” Select “Captions” and set the caption style.
